In Kherson region, a court handed down a life sentence to a man who was found guilty of high treason and passing information about the Ukrainian military to the enemy. According to the investigation, he helped to adjust Russian strikes in the region, while asking not to shell his father's farm, a collaborator.
This was reported by the press service of the Prosecutor General's Office.
The investigation found that in 2023, the man maintained contact with a representative of the occupation authorities who was in the temporarily occupied territory and acted in the interests of the aggressor country. He sent the coordinates of the positions of the Ukrainian military, the location of heavy weapons, checkpoints, as well as data on the movement of equipment on the territory of the Kherson community.
According to the prosecution, the information received was used by Russian troops to prepare and adjust artillery and rocket attacks on the settlements of the region.
The prosecutor's office emphasized that the cooperation was systematic and conscious. This was confirmed by lengthy correspondence, which included receiving tasks, transferring intelligence, and even discussing the man's departure to the occupied territory.
During the trial, the accused denied his guilt. He claimed that he had allegedly lost his SIM card, and that another person could have been in correspondence with the enemy representative. At the same time, the man admitted that he personally knew this representative of the occupying party. Prosecutors noted that these allegations were refuted by the evidence in the case.
The investigation also found that the convict acted for ideological reasons. In his correspondence, he refused to pay for the information he provided, but asked for the coordinates of his father's farm so that Russian strikes would not hit the facility. His father had also previously been convicted of collaborating with the occupation administration - he headed the so-called department of the occupation Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries in Kherson region.
In addition, during the investigation, law enforcement officers found the man on a video of one of the propaganda resources of the occupation authorities. In the recording, he worked as a host and sound engineer during a public event.
On May 12, 2026, the court found him guilty of high treason committed under martial law and sentenced him to the maximum penalty of life imprisonment with confiscation of property. The convict will be kept in custody until the verdict enters into force.
Also, Yuriy Skrytskyi, who was a lawyer for the mayor of Kherson , Ihor Kolikhayev, was sentenced in absentia to 11 years in prison for aiding the aggressor state.
