Employees of the Tuzly Estuaries National Nature Park were awarded the title of Ranger of the Year at the World Congress of the International Union for Conservation of Nature in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates.

This was reported by Ivan Rusev, an employee of the National Park.

According to him, "Ranger of the Year" - is the International Ranger Award, which is given for outstanding achievements in wildlife conservation. The award was established by the IUCN World Commission on Protected Areas in cooperation with the International Ranger Federation (IRF) and the Global Wildlife Conservation Foundation. It honors the work of rangers working in protected areas around the world and recognizes the outstanding contribution of rangers to wildlife conservation.

"The 2025 International Ranger Awards draw attention to the courage and tireless dedication of rangers around the world. These individuals and teams are the guardians of our planet's most precious ecosystems. From conserving endangered species to protecting fragile landscapes amidst threats and challenges, their work inspires and reminds us that conservation is a shared mission and collective responsibility," said Dr. Gretel Aguilar, Director General of the International Union for Conservation of Nature.

In July, the Tuzly Estuaries National Nature Park restored the natural water exchange between the Malyi Sasyk and Shagany estuaries. The work was carried out by park employees together with local residents of the village of Prymorske. The channel was cleaned manually, without the use of machinery. The water exchange creates conditions for the migration of marine aquatic life and the passage of fish between the estuaries and the sea, which is especially important during the period of prolonged drought and climate change. Restoring flows will also help improve water quality, reduce siltation, and restore biodiversity in estuaries.
