In the Kherson region, Russia’s ongoing attacks on energy infrastructure have been officially classified as a threat of an emergency. The situation regarding heat supply to Kherson has also been given this status due to the risk of disruptions to the heating season.

This was announced by Oleksandr Prokudin, head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration, following a meeting of the regional commission on technological and environmental safety and emergencies.

According to him, the commission issued a separate decision recognizing the situation with Kherson’s heat supply as a threat of a man-made emergency.

This concerns the implementation of a project to decentralize the city’s heating system. If it is not completed on time, more than 500 apartment buildings could be left without heat this winter due to Russian shelling of the centralized system.

In this regard, the Kherson Regional State Administration is preparing an appeal to the government requesting funds from the state budget’s reserve fund. The funding is planned to be directed toward implementing the heat supply decentralization project and completing work on the engineering and technical protection of energy facilities.

In addition, during the meeting, officials approved a procedure for ensuring power supply to critical infrastructure facilities and the population in the event of prolonged power outages, and updated the list of chemically hazardous facilities in the region.

As Intent previously reported, Russian troops have turned the Kherson Thermal Power Plant into a target for regular shelling. Although the power plant has been out of service for several months and is no longer functioning, shelling of the facility continues almost daily.

The plant officially ceased operations on December 4 of last year due to constant shelling. As noted bySerhiy Koretskyi, chairman of the board of Naftogaz of Ukraine, the enemy is acting according to a clear plan: the systematic strikes are aimed at making it physically impossible to repair the equipment.
