The occupiers have intensified their activities in Transnistria, threatening Ukraine's security from the southern border. The region is stepping up mobilization, decommissioning weapons, and launching the production of drones.
This was reported by Ukrinform.
The terrorist country has intensified its activities in the Transnistrian region of Moldova, trying to divert Ukraine's resources and increase the threat from this Russian enclave.
In particular, the so-called Transnistrian Moldovan Republic (TMR) is intensifying mobilization activities: reservists are being called up to local military formations, and weapons are being restored and deconserved in warehouses.
At the same time, the production of drones and training centers for drone operators have been launched in Transnistria. The aggressor country's active actions are aimed at strengthening Russia's presence in the region, which the Kremlin uses to destabilize Moldova and create a point of tension on the border with the southern regions of Ukraine. This increases the risk of sabotage groups entering Ukrainian territory.
To implement its plans, Moscow is deploying intelligence agents to Transnistria to exacerbate the crisis, stir up chaos through information operations, provoke conflicts, and conduct sabotage activities.
After the termination of gas supplies from Gazprom in early 2025, Transnistria, which is heavily dependent on Russian gas, managed to avoid an energy collapse thanks to Moldova, as the critical resource is supplied by Moldovagaz.
According to intelligence, the Kremlin's current focus on Transnistria indicates the beginning of a hybrid operation by Russia in preparation for the so-called "presidential elections in the Transnistrian region" in 2026.
According to intelligence experts, this operation has several goals: to restore Tiraspol's dependence on free Russian gas, to raise the rating of pro-Russian leaders, to covertly increase Russia's military presence in the region, and to prepare the accumulated resources for a possible military escalation at the appropriate time.
On January 1, 2025, Russia cut off gas supplies to Moldova, which caused a serious energy crisis, especially in the unrecognized "Transnistrian Moldovan Republic" (TMR). The terrorist country explained its decision by the end of fuel transit through Ukraine and Chisinau's refusal to recognize its $709 million debt to Gazprom, most of which was accumulated through gas supplies to Transnistria. Journalists from the Center for Public Investigations decided to find out who actually controls the energy system of the Transnistrian region and what risks this creates for Ukraine.
