Doctor to be tried for patient's death in Mykolaiv

The Mykolaiv City Prosecutor's Office has brought a case against a doctor at the Surgical Dentistry Department of the Mykolaiv Regional Clinical Hospital to court. The doctor is accused of improper performance of professional duties. According to the investigation, due to the doctor's negligent attitude to his work, the patient suffered serious health consequences.

This was reported by the Mykolaiv Regional Prosecutor's Office.

According to the investigation, the incident occurred on the evening of July 30, 2024. Around 22:55, an ambulance crew delivered a patient to the regional hospital with severe injuries: numerous bruises, facial bruises, a broken nose and a closed head injury.

Although the doctor examined the patient and made a diagnosis, he did not provide the full scope of necessary examinations and violated the requirements of medical protocols. Due to such a negligent attitude to the performance of professional duties, the patient's condition deteriorated, which eventually led to his death.

The pre-trial investigation of the case was completed by investigators of the Mykolaiv District Police Department. The doctor now faces up to two years in prison.

Earlier, almost two billion hryvnias were planned for healthcare in Mykolaiv over two years. The program provides for the development of medical institutions, updating the material and technical base and providing additional services.

The Mykolaiv City Council has planned to approve the Program for the Development and Support of Municipal Healthcare Facilities for 2026-2028. It provides for financial support to the city's medical institutions and the provision of medical services to the population beyond the scope of the state healthcare guarantee program.
