District court arsonist convicted in Mykolaiv

In Mykolaiv, a court sentenced a 19-year-old local resident who set fire to the administrative building of the district court on the order of a curator from Russia.

According to the Mykolaiv Oblast Police Department, the incident occurred on January 5, 2025, on Samoilovycha Street. At that time, the police received a report of a fire in the courtroom. Law enforcement officers found that it was an intentional arson, and seized material evidence from the scene.

Within a few days, the police tracked down and detained the attacker in a rented apartment. During the pre-trial investigation, it turned out that the young man was acting on the instructions of a Russian curator. He found the building in advance, purchased the necessary means for arson and, after completing the task, sent a video report to the customer, expecting a monetary reward.

Investigators classified his actions under the article on intentional damage to property by arson. Upon completion of the investigation, the indictment was submitted to the court.

The court found the defendant guilty and sentenced him. He was sentenced to six years and five months in prison for the crime. The verdict has not yet entered into force and may be appealed.

As a reminder, a 22-year-old resident of the Bashtanskyi district of Mykolaiv is suspected of setting fire to a bank branch on Tsentralnyi Avenue. According to the investigation, the man acted on the instructions of unknown persons whom he believed to be representatives of the special services.

Earlier, Intent wrote that in Odesa, a court took into custody a 25-year-old man suspected of setting fire to a military vehicle and collaborating with enemy special services. According to the investigation, he was carrying out tasks via Telegram and preparing for an even more serious crime - a terrorist attack.

On the eve of the crime, he met a girl through a chatbot in the popular messenger, but she did not come to the meeting. Instead, he was contacted by an unknown person who introduced himself as a law enforcement officer and said that his new acquaintance was allegedly a collaborator.
