In annexed Crimea, most gas stations have run out of diesel fuel. This was caused by a sharp decline in supplies from Russia.
This was reported by Krym. Realii.
Gas station employees attribute the shortage to the fact that, following the lifting of U.S. sanctions, Russian companies have redirected the bulk of their diesel production toward foreign exports.
An employee at one gas station reported that management had stated the shortage would only worsen, as supplies are dwindling. According to him, all gas stations in Crimea are currently operating “on a just-in-time basis,” meaning they have no reserves.
“Over the past month and a half, the situation with diesel fuel supplies has been fairly stable—prices went up, but it was available. But yesterday we sold our remaining stock, and no new shipment of diesel has arrived; management reported that due to the lifting of sanctions on the sale of Russian diesel, diesel fuel shipments to Crimea are now being sharply reduced, so the shortage of this type of fuel will grow rapidly in Crimea,” he noted.
The man also said that representatives from one of the agricultural enterprises had already visited the gas station. According to him, people are very concerned about the lack of diesel fuel, as they are currently in the midst of planting winter crops.
Earlier, the U.S. Department of the Treasury issued General License No. 135. This authorized transactions involving diesel fuel of Russian origin, and consequently, the Kremlin lifted its own restrictions on the export of petroleum products.
