Crimean Tatar ceramist receives Kateryna Bilokur Award

Crimean Tatar artist and ceramist <b>Rustem Skybin</b>, who holds the title of Honored Master of Folk Art of Ukraine, has won the Kateryna Bilokur Prize.

This award, which is given for outstanding works of folk art, emphasizes the artistic value of Skibin's work and his contribution to the preservation and development of traditional Crimean Tatar ceramics in Ukraine.

Rustem Skybin was chosen as the winner of the Kateryna Bilokur Prize by open voting after a long discussion, as all the submitted works were highly appreciated by the Committee.

The artist was awarded for his series of ceramic panels 'Qalqan/Shield', in which he preserves and develops the traditions of ancient Crimean Tatar art. The works are artistic paintings of ceramics with national ornaments. The exhibition 'Qalqan/Shield' consists of panels made in the form of protective shields decorated with floral Crimean Tatar ornaments.

These works are not only art objects but also carriers of information about the history and culture of Crimea. In the fall, the exhibition was already presented in Vilnius.

Earlier, the State Agency of Ukraine for Arts and Art Education handed over about 300 textbooks to art lyceums, as well as institutions of professional pre-university and higher education that train specialists in the field of musical art.

Within the framework of the Maqam project, the Svitarta NGO, in partnership with the Union of Lithuanian Tatar Communities, with the support of the European Union (House of Europe program), prepared and published the publication "Colors of Crimea: Arrangements of Crimean Tatar Folk Music for Piano'. This collection is a valuable contribution to the preservation of the musical culture of the indigenous people of Ukraine.

The author of this collection is a Crimean Tatar composer and Honored Artist of Ukraine, Dzhemil Karikov. He devoted his life to his native music, creating numerous works for various instruments and voice. His new collection contains piano arrangements of folk songs and instrumental melodies intended for both concert practice and studying in music institutions of various levels. These works will help to deepen the knowledge of the centuries-old traditional musical culture of Crimea and promote cultural dialogue, in particular among the numerous diaspora of Crimean Tatars in different countries.
