A court in Odesa region has arrested soybeans that traders were trying to illegally export to Egypt through the Pivdennyi port.

This was reported by the press service of the Territorial Department of the Bureau of Economic Security in Odesa region (BES).

According to the BES, during the pre-trial investigation, law enforcement officers found that a company specializing in wholesale grain trade tried to export almost 5.4 thousand tons of soybeans outside the customs territory of Ukraine without documents on the legality of the origin of agricultural products. The estimated value of the agricultural products is almost USD 2 million.

The company filed a customs declaration in the "Processing outside the customs territory" mode. The recipient was a non-resident company in the United Arab Emirates.

"In order to ensure compensation for the damage caused as a result of the criminal offense, the court decided to seize the seized agricultural products with a total value of almost UAH 92.6 million," said Serhii Muntyan, Head of the BES in Odesa region.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing under Part 3 of Article 212 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine on the fact of intentional tax evasion. The full range of persons involved in the illegal activity is being identified.

Earlier, detectives of the Territorial Department of the Bureau of Economic Security in Odesa region completed a pre-trial investigation into tax evasion by a company engaged in the export of agricultural products. Products worth almost UAH 660 million were exported by sea through one of the ports of Odesa region to Egypt and Turkey.
