An Olympic champion from Odesa won silver at the European Championships

Olympic champion Mykola Milchev from Odesa won a silver medal at the European Trap Shooting Championships in Athens. He became the European runner-up.

In the skeet qualification round (a type of clay pigeon shooting), the Odessa native hit 122 out of a possible 125 targets. This result helped him advance to the top eight, who competed for medals.

In the final, the 58-year-old athlete hit 10 out of 12 targets in the first round. As a result, he found himself among the outsiders but remained in the top 6 and stayed in the competition.

The men’s skeet competition at Euro 2026 ended as follows:

  1. Eetu Kallioinen (Finland) – 31 points;
  2. Mykola Milchev (Ukraine) – 30 points;
  3. Henrik Jansson (Sweden) – 26 points.

This is Milchev’s third medal at the European Championships and his second in a row. Previously, he was the runner-up in 1999 and won bronze in 2025.

Additionally, by finishing in the top 10 overall, Milchev secured a spot for the Ukrainian national team at the 2027 European Games. Prior to this, the team had already earned two spots in the competition. They were earned in the rapid-fire pistol event.

On September 30, the finals of the European Clay Pigeon Shooting Championships for men and women in the skeet discipline took place in Athens, Greece.

In the men’s competition, Ukraine was represented in the final by 2000 Sydney Olympic champion Mykola Milchev.

As previously reported by Intent, 19-year-old Nikita Sheremet from Odesa won gold at the 2026 European Aquatics Championships in Paris.
