The Mykolaiv Central District Court ordered the seizure of a cell phone, a laptop, and technical documentation that were seized during a search conducted as part of criminal proceedings under the article on treason.
The court issued the corresponding ruling on July 13.
Court documents indicate that the pretrial investigation is being conducted by the Investigative Department of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) in Kherson Oblast as part of criminal proceedings initiated under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
According to the investigation, residents of Mykolaiv and the Mykolaiv region maintained contact with unidentified representatives of Russian intelligence services through covert communication channels, including the Telegram messaging app, to transmit intelligence-related information about the activities of defense industry enterprises, critical infrastructure facilities, government agencies, military units, and other sites of significant defense importance.
The investigation also alleges that one of the suspects—a leading specialist in the field of hovercraft design—carried out assignments for a Chinese research institution, Harbin Engineering University, and other unidentified entities in the People’s Republic of China in exchange for monetary compensation. According to law enforcement officials, he passed on restricted-access information regarding the technical specifications, design solutions, and operational characteristics of such vessels, while taking measures to conceal his activities.
The court order states that investigators consider the suspect’s actions to be the fulfillment of tasks assigned by the special services of a foreign state, aimed at undermining Ukraine’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, defense capability, and national security under martial law.
During a search on July 3, law enforcement officers seized a Vivo X200 Pro cell phone, an HP laptop, documentation marked “For Official Use Only” titled “Improving the Design of Self-Propelled Tethered Underwater Systems for Defense Purposes Based on a Systems Approach,” as well as 77 pages of technical documentation containing technical specifications, diagrams, 3D models, and calculations.
The court concluded that the seized items may contain evidence relevant to the criminal proceedings, including diagrams, technical data, calculations, correspondence, and other information necessary for conducting expert examinations and establishing the facts of the case. In light of this, the prosecutor’s motion was granted, and the seized property was placed under seizure.
