At the O. V. Bleshchunov, a presentation of the immersive installation “VLADA-VONA” took place, dedicated to exploring the body image and the role of women in the Soviet era and in modern Ukraine. The art installation was created by artist Viktoria Khoroshilova and artist Anastasia Petrova.

Intent correspondents attended the presentation.

The immersive installation format allowed visitors to delve into an exploration of the female experience through interviews, movement practices, video installations, and personal interaction with the exhibits.

Women participated in the artistic research, sharing the stories of the older women in their families and how these stories influence their personal histories today.

The project’s creator, Viktoria Khoroshilova, noted that “I became 15 families richer by incorporating their stories into my own experience.”

“When I invited women to talk about their family history, I didn’t expect my invitation to receive so many responses. The stories took on a life of their own, and it became clear that there was a need to talk not only about life but also about things that had never been spoken of. Together, we were, as it were, unraveling the unspoken yet ever-present—the things that still shape our lives today. These conversations became important to me as well,” she noted.

In the movement practice, we analyzed how the body reacts to texts written for women during the Soviet period and to contemporary texts. We reflected on the role of women and feminism as a dynamic phenomenon.

An immersive installation (from the English “immerse”) is a form of contemporary performative and visual art that transforms the viewer from a passive observer into an active participant in the event. The main goal of such a project is to fully immerse a person in the artistic space by engaging various senses.
