An FSB officer was convicted of torturing Ukrainians in Nova Kakhovka

An FSB officer from the Russian Federation was sentenced to 12 years in prison for torturing civilians in Nova Kakhovka. He was found guilty of violating the laws and customs of war. 

This is stated in the verdict of the Novovorontsov District Court in the Kherson region.

<span><span><span><span><span><span>Prosecutors proved</span></span></span></span></span></span><span><span><span><span><span><span>that Russian FSB Colonel Dmitry Laikov of Moscow, with the call sign “Laki,” </span></span></span></span></span></span><span><span><span><span><span><span>organized the</span></span></span></span></span></span><span><span><span><span><span><span>detention of Ukrainians with the aim of coercing them into cooperation. He personally tortured civilians with electric shocks, inflicted bodily harm on them, and restricted their access to food, water, and the restroom. The defendant also threatened one of the detainees with the murder of his relatives. </span></span></span></span></span></span>

<span><span><span><span><span><span>Evidence of Dmitry Laikov’s guilt included the victims’ testimonies, the identification of the</span></span></span></span></span></span>defendant from photographs by both victims,<span><span><span><span><span><span>documents from the FSB unit’s deployment site listing the call signs of its personnel, and the defendant’s cover details. </span></span></span></span></span></span><span><span><span><span><span><span>According to his award records, the defendant personally participated in approximately 100 “operational-combat operations,” as a result of which 28 Ukrainians were detained at the detention center in Kherson.</span></span></span></span></span></span>

Dmytro Laikovwas charged with violating the laws and customs of war on November 4, 2023. 

Earlier, the courtfound Vitaliy Vasyutinsky, a resident of Kalanchak in the Skadovsk District, guilty of collaboration. For nearly two years, he headed the occupation administration of the so-called “Verkhniy Rogachik Municipal District.” The court sentenced <b>him to</b>8 years in prison and barred him from holding leadership positions in government bodies for 13 years. 

The court confiscated all of thedefendant’s property. The list includes two residential buildings in Kalanchak and the land plots attached to them, another residential building at a different address, and five vehicles: a Geely Emgrand, two VAZ cars, a trailer, and a Daewoo Lanos.
