His collaboration with a Russian company, the development of electronic components, and the transfer of technical documentation ultimately led to the intern from Mykolaiv standing trial. Despite the severity of the charges, the court approved a plea agreement and sentenced him to probation.

This is evidenced by the verdict of the Ingulsky District Court of Mykolaiv.

According to the case file, in late 2023, Ilya Tranin received an offer via Telegram from a Russian citizen to work remotely on the development of electronic circuit boards, schematics, and software.

The investigation established that the work was commissioned by the Russian company “Pejeng-Tech,” which operates in the oil and gas extraction sector. The man designed and refined electronic circuit boards, sent photographs of the finished products, drawings, technical diagrams, and other design documentation. In his correspondence, he reported on the completion of the work, shared the projects via GitHub, and explained the technical features of the boards he had created.

In addition, in 2025, he received drawings of new products from a representative of the Russian company, made changes to them, and returned the finalized files. Subsequently, the Russian client thanked him for the work performed and, at the end of the year, sent copies of patents registered in the Russian Federation for the developed technical solutions.

A separate incident involved the transfer of military-related documentation. In October 2025, Tranin, without authorization from the State Export Control Service, sent an Iranian citizen a technical manual for operating the ORT-CK turbine stall limiter, which is classified as military goods.

As a result, the man entered into a plea agreement with the prosecutor. He donated a vehicle worth half a million hryvnias to a military unit and additionally transferred 200,000 hryvnias to two military units. He was also sentenced to one year of probation.

Meanwhile, an investigation is underway in the Mykolaiv region into the transfer of defense-related developments to foreign nationals. According to the investigation, a specialist in ship design was carrying out an order for a Chinese research institution, Harbin Engineering University.
