An earthquake with a magnitude of 3.6 struck the temporarily occupied Crimea. The epicenter of the tremors was located at a depth of 11 kilometers in the Bakhchysarai district.

This was reported by the Ukrainian Main Center for Special Control (GCSK) of the National Seismic Observation System.

According to the center, the earthquake was recorded at 9:57 a.m. on October 17, 2026. Its magnitude was 3.6 on the Richter scale.

According to the earthquake classification, it was barely perceptible, the center clarified.

A series of earthquakes has been recorded recently in occupied Crimea.

In August, two tremors were recorded within a 24-hour period. Both epicenters were located in the Black Sea near the southern coast of the peninsula.

On June 22, six earthquakes occurred. Their epicenters, with magnitudes ranging from 3.3 to 3.8, were in the Black Sea. According to seismic classification, these were noticeable tremors.

Earlier, in April, four tremors were recorded on the southern coast of the peninsula: one at sea and three in the Uchan-Su area.

According to experts, Crimea is located in a seismically active zone where “release” occurs at the junction of tectonic plates.

Seismologists also warn of the threat of the so-called “century cycle”—similar to the devastating earthquake of 1927—and the forecast of a major earthquake by 2027 remains valid.

Due to violations of building codes on the peninsula, a potential powerful earthquake could lead to serious destruction.
