In the Romanian county of Tulcea, which borders the Odesa region, an air raid alert was issued on the morning of August 2 after an aerial target was detected near the Ukrainian border.

Romanian media reported this, citing the Romanian Ministry of National Defense.

According to the ministry, at approximately 9:30 a.m., the radar surveillance system detected an aerial target near the river border with Ukraine. Following this, the National Military Command Center notified the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, which sent out a warning to residents of Tulcea County via the RO-Alert system.

However, the aerial target disappeared from radar screens shortly thereafter.

The Romanian Ministry of Defense emphasized that the object was moving near the state border but did not enter the country’s airspace.

The air raid alert in Tulcea County was lifted at 9:52 a.m.

Romanian authorities did not specify what type of aircraft was detected by radar, nor did they report any consequences of the incident. Given Tulcea County’s proximity to the Odesa region, the RO-Alert system in this area is regularly activated during Russian attacks on Ukrainian port infrastructure near the Danube.

Recently, Romania declared one of the staff members of the Russian Embassy in Bucharest persona non grata following a series of violations of the country’s airspace by Russian drones. At the same time, the Russian ambassador was summoned to the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and presented with a note of protest.
