Kherson was visited by Michael Capponi, president of the international humanitarian organization Global Empowerment Mission (GEM); Alina Kurskaya, GEM’s director of programs and international affairs in Ukraine; and American philanthropist Howard G. Buffett.

This was reported by the Kherson City Military Administration.

During the visit, the delegation visited the premises of the nonprofit organization “United by Love for Children,” where they learned about the team’s work and spoke with children who receive daily psychological support there, participate in developmental activities, and spend time in a safe environment.

Gifts from Global Empowerment Mission were also prepared for the children. In addition, the guests took part in creative activities—they left their handprints on the painting “Kherson Tree” and drew self-portraits on the “Kherson Family” banner.

The city’s military administration noted that Global Empowerment Mission has been implementing humanitarian programs in Ukraine since the start of the full-scale invasion, supporting the communities most affected by Russian aggression.

Kherson also expressed gratitude to the Global Empowerment Mission and the Howard G. Buffett Foundation for their ongoing assistance to the community, support for children, and willingness to continue humanitarian projects in the region.

In January 2026, during a visit to Kherson, Howard Buffett toured the city’s underground hospital. The philanthropist went down to the medical facility, where Kherson residents receive care in safe conditions, and spoke with medical staff and patients.

As a reminder, the construction of one underground hospital in Kherson cost 19 million hryvnias. The underground hospitalwas equipped with operating and resuscitation units, intensive care wards, a treatment room, a laboratory, a medication storage area, and the necessary medical equipment. Additionally, at one of Kherson’s medical facilities, a bomb shelter was renovated and converted to providemedical services.
