A 38-year-old Odessa resident has been brought to trial for passing information to the enemy about the locations of Ukrainian military personnel and military equipment in the port.
This was reported by the Odesa Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
In 2024, the woman met an enemy representative online. He lives in the temporarily occupied territory.
They subsequently exchanged messages on Telegram. According to the prosecutor’s office, the Odessa woman agreed to gather information on the locations of Ukrainian military units and passed it on on multiple occasions.
In August of that year, the woman carried out the agreement with her contact. She passed on information about the locations of Ukrainian Navy equipment and personnel. This information pertained to the territory of one of the ports in the Odesa region.
According to the prosecutor’s office, the dissemination of this information could have posed a risk to the lives and safety of military personnel. It could also have served as a guide for planning enemy attacks.
At the request of the prosecutor’s office, the woman is being held in custody. The court has not set bail for her.
In Ukraine, passing information to the enemy about Ukrainian military personnel, equipment, and military facilities is a criminal offense. The dissemination of such information is prohibited because it could be used by the Russian army to plan attacks.
Ukrainian courts regularly hear such cases and hand down sentences.
For example, two residents of the Odesa region were recently sentenced for passing information about Ukrainian military facilities to Russian intelligence. Among them were a former servicemember who organized the group, an active-duty soldier, and a woman.
Another verdict was previously handed down in Mykolaiv. A man who had served on a contract basis in the Ukrainian Armed Forces for over five years was convicted of treason.
