A Ukrainian record for making 300 liters of borscht was set in the Odesa region

<span><span><span><span><span><span>In the Kuyalnik community in Odesa Oblast, a record amount of borscht was cooked using the Chikalenko family recipe. Representatives of the National Register of Records of Ukraine documented the achievement.</span></span></span></span></span></span>

<span><span><span><span><span><span>A record 300 liters of borscht were cooked in the community on August 23, 2026, as part of the “PAN BORSCHT” charity festival. In total, 20 </span></span></span></span></span></span>authentic versions of the dish, based on traditional recipes,<span><span><span><span><span><span>were presented at the event </span></span></span></span></span></span>. 

<span><span><span><span><span><span>Borscht made according to Chikalenko’s recipe is a traditional dish of the family of the famous Ukrainian philanthropist Yevhen Chikalenko, who lived in the Odesa region. The main secret of this borscht lies in the addition of special local herbs and aromatic roots that grow in this region. </span></span></span></span></span></span><span><span><span><span><span><span>The recipe was pieced together bit by bit based on historical recollections, letters, and diary entries from the Chikalenko family to accurately recreate the flavors of southern Ukraine at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.</span></span></span></span></span></span>

Earlier, the Odesa National Scientific Library celebrated Independence Day with a family-friendly event titled “ A Borscht Tour of the Odesa Region: Unity in Diversity.” A workshop on preparing Black Sea borscht, complete with a tasting, was held on the library grounds by the Odesa Regional Center for Ukrainian Culture and the Odesa Higher Vocational School of Maritime Tourism Services.
