Police officers in the Odesa region have charged a 26-year-old driver of a MAN truck with violating traffic safety rules while operating a vehicle, resulting in the victim’s death.
According to the press office of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Odesa region, the incident in question is a tragedy that occurred on July 9 near the village of Oday in the Berezivsky District.
According to the police,<span>while traveling toward Odesa, the driver was inattentive, failed to monitor road conditions, did not maintain a safe speed, and collided with a Mercedes-Benz minibus that had stopped in the right lane due to a mechanical failure. The minibus overturned upon impact.</span>
<span>A 15-year-old passenger in the minibus was killed in the traffic accident. Another 13 passengers, including children, sustained injuries of varying severity. Specifically, a 53-year-old woman and a 17-year-old boy suffered serious injuries; a 14-year-old girl and a 59-year-old man suffered moderate injuries; while the other victims sustained minor injuries. Both drivers were tested for intoxication—they were sober.</span>
Earlier, police had announced that theywere treatinga 45-year-old Nissan Murano driver asa suspect following a traffic accident in which 12 people were killed. According to investigators, the man caused the accident by driving in his own lane toward an oncoming minibus.
The crash killed the49-year-old driver and 11 passengers of the minibus. Six more people remain in hospitals under medical supervision. Among the injured is a 15-year-old girl.
According to police, the driver of a Nissan Murano was traveling in the lane opposite that of the minibus and caused the accident.
The SUV driver wastaken into custody. On July 5, investigators informed him that he was suspected of violating traffic laws, which resulted in the deaths of several people. In Mykolaiv, Sunday, July 5,was declared a Day of Mourning following thetraffic accident that killed 12 people. Among the victims were employees of “Mykolaivelektrotrans” and their family members.
