A state of extreme fire danger has been declared in occupied Crimea. In the mountains and central regions of the peninsula, this state of emergency will remain in effect until September 22.

The region’s occupation administration notes that during this period, it is prohibited to light open fires or burn trash and dry grass. People are also prohibited from building campfires or performing any work involving open flames in forests and natural ecosystems. Violations of these prohibitions are punishable by fines of up to 800,000 rubles (393,700 UAH).

As Intent previously reported, a fire broke out near Yalta on the night of August 19. Initially, the burned area was estimated at several hectares; it then grew to 10 hectares and, by August 21, to 50 hectares. The occupying authorities classified it as a “regional-scale natural emergency.”

To fight the fire, the occupiers sought volunteers. People aged 18 and older with no health issues are allowed to participate in emergency response efforts. To ensure uninterrupted operations, water was delivered by tanker trucks and motorcycles, and rescue workers also laid out main water lines.

Water supplies have been restricted in Crimea’s resort towns and villages. The reasons cited include network failures and problems with the power supply.
