On the morning of August 22, a Russian drone violated Moldova’s airspace. This occurred amid a Russian attack on the Odesa region.
This was reportedby the Moldovan Ministry of Defense.
“The unauthorized overflight occurred following Russia’s airstrikes on Ukraine last night,” the Ministry of Defense stated.
According to the ministry, the drone was detected at 4:07 a.m. Preliminary data indicates that it was a Shahed-138 drone.
The drone presumably entered Moldovan airspace from the direction of the village of Krutoyarivka in the Odesa region, after which it crossed the state border near the village of Kaplany in the Stefan Vodsky District.
At 04:24, the drone left Moldovan airspace, crossing the state border again toward Ukraine near the same settlement, the Moldovan Ministry of Defense added.
This is far from the first time that Russian attacks in the Odesa region have affected Moldovan territory. On August 17, a Russian missile drone entered the country’s territory and crashed into a cornfield on the outskirts of the village of Talmaz in the Ștefan Vodă District, causing an explosion and a fire.
Prior to that, the Air Force had warned that a “Banderol” drone-missile had crossed the border with Moldova after flying over the Odesa region.
On the night of August 21, Russian“Shahed” drones attacked the infrastructure at the “Tabaky” border crossing on the border with Moldova—buildings and structures were damaged, and fires broke out.
As of the morning of August 22, border crossing operations at the checkpoint had resumed.
