A motorman was killed as a result of a Russian strike on a civilian cargo ship flying the Liberian flag in one of the ports in the Odesa region. Three other crew members were injured.

This was reported by the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority.

Rescuers evacuated 13 sailors to a safe location.

Earlier, the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority reported other Russian attacks on ships in the Black Sea. In particular, on the night of September 23, the occupiers struck a cargo ship flying the flag of Antigua and Barbuda. The ship’s captain was killed. A fire broke out as a result of the attack. The crew was evacuated by the Ukrainian Navy, and the fire was extinguished.

On September 17, while en route to one of Ukraine’s ports, a vessel flying the Tanzanian flag was attacked by a Russian UAV. The ship’s captain was killed in the strike, and three other crew members were injured.

The Ukrainian Ministry of Recovery, Infrastructure, and Transport emphasized that Russia is systematically targeting Ukrainian port infrastructure and civilian merchant ships. Such attacks pose additional risks to crews, international shipping, and the stability of logistics routes in the Black Sea.

Ukraine continues to work with international partners to strengthen the protection of civilian shipping, support the operation of maritime logistics routes, and prevent further escalation of security threats in the Black Sea.
