A Russian agent was targeting gas stations and military fuel trucks in the Odesa region

In the Odesa region, security services detained a spotter who may have been coordinating Russian missile and drone attacks on fuel and energy infrastructure in southern Ukraine. He was caught in the act of attaching a GPS tracker to a military fuel truck.

This was reported by the Security Service of Ukraine.

As the investigation revealed, the suspect’s primary tasks included locating and transmitting the coordinates of gas stations, as well as the locations ofUkrzaliznytsia freight trains and Defense Forces fuel tankers.

SBU officers caught the suspect “red-handed”—while he was installing a GPS tracker on a military fuel truck to use it to guide an enemy attack in real time.

According to the case file, a local unemployed man recruited by the FSB was responsible for directing Russian shelling. He came to the attention of the Russians while searching for “easy” money on Telegram channels.

After being recruited remotely, the agent received instructions from a handler in Russia on how to identify “suitable targets,” purchase GPS trackers, and install them on the targets.

By carrying out precision strikes on fuel tankers, freight trains, and local gas stations, the enemy planned to disrupt supply lines to the front and destabilize the internal situation in southern Ukraine.

During a search at the site of the suspect’s arrest, a GPS tracker was found that he was supposed to activate on a military fuel tanker. A smartphone containing evidence of his work for the enemy was also seized from the suspect.

Investigators from the Security Service informed the suspect that he is suspected of violating Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (treason committed under martial law).

The suspect is being held in custody without the right to bail. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
