A police officer detained a 20-year-old resident of Teplodar, Odesa region, for attempting to set fire to a building of a non-governmental organization.

According to the press service of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Odesa Oblast, the attacker acted while drunk, recalling her insults to one of the volunteers.

The incident, according to the investigation, occurred a few days ago in the city of Teplodar, Odesa district. Law enforcement officers found that the local resident, while drinking alcohol in the evening on the street where the NGO's office is located, remembered her hostile relationship with one of its employees and decided to take revenge.

The attacker brought paper and flammable liquid to the office, doused one of the several doors of the building and set it on fire. The flames did not ignite, so she did the same with the other doors. A passing volunteer noticed this and immediately put out the fire and called the police.

Law enforcement officers arrested the offender at the scene of the crime. The test showed that she was intoxicated.

The woman has now been served a notice of suspicion of completed attempted intentional damage to another's property by arson. If found guilty, she faces a sentence of three to 10 years in prison.

In July, five members of an organized group committed 14 arsons in Odesa region. The sabotage was carried out against Ukrzaliznytsia facilities, the electric power industry, administrative buildings of government agencies and strategically important enterprises.

For several months, they organized arson attacks on relay and battery cabinets on railway lines, transformer substations, administrative buildings of village councils and government agencies, cell towers, and water supply facilities. The arsons were carried out at night. Flammable substances were used.
