A street named after Hero of Ukraine Oleksandr Gordienko may be established in Brovary, Kyiv Oblast. He was a farmer from the Kherson region who was killed in September 2025 during a Russian drone attack.
This was reported by the Brovary City Council.
On July 14, the executive committee of the Brovary City Council endorsed an online petition titled “On Naming (Renaming) a Street in the City of Brovary in Honor of Hero of Ukraine Oleksandr Dmytrovych Gordienko.”
The petition was published on May 14, 2026. It gathered 352 signatures—enough for the request to be considered in accordance with current legislation.
Oleksandr Dmytrovych Gordienko was the head of the Kherson Oblast Farmers’ Association and a deputy of the Kherson Oblast Council representing the “We Live Here” party. In Ukraine, he was known as a farmer who protected people and equipment from Russian drones.
After the liberation of the right-bank part of the Kherson region in November 2022, he helped clear agricultural land of mines.
According to information provided in the petition, Gordienko removed more than 5,000 anti-tank mines from the fields and destroyed more than 200 Russian drones using electronic warfare equipment and a special rifle.
In addition to his work on the farm, he represented the interests of Ukrainian farmers at meetings with government officials and headed the Kherson Region Farmers’ Association.
On September 5, 2025, Oleksandr Gordienko was working in the field when a Russian drone attacked the vehicle he was in. As a result of the strike, he sustained fatal injuries.
On November 10, 2025, by decree of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Oleksandr Gordienko was posthumously awarded the highest state honor—Hero of Ukraine.
