Unknown persons broke a memorial plaque to Russian writer Alexander Pushkin, which was on the facade of the former building of the Richelieu Lyceum at 16 Deribasovskaya Street in Odesa.

This was reported by activists of the organization "Decolonization. Ukraine".

"As the wind blows from the wide steppes. Odesa. The first Pushkin fell from the wind. We are sure that the wind can be such that the main one will fall," they commented on the published photo.

As Dumskaya reminded, the plaque informed a curious tourist that "Pushkin visited this house." The plaque itself was a gift to the city from writer Oleh Borushko, sculptor Oleksandr Kniazyk, and the late historian Oleh Hubar. The publication also noted that the police informed us that they had not received any reports of such offenses.

In April, activists of the NGO "Making You Nervous" staged a performance on a bust of Alexander Pushkin located on Primorsky Boulevard in the center of Odesa.

The action took place in the context of a conflict because passers-by were outraged by the actions of the activists, and they, in turn, advised those dissatisfied with their actions to go to Russia.

The day before, unidentified persons had vandalized a monument to Soviet Marshal Rodion Malinowski, located at the corner of Preobrazhenska and Sofiyivska streets.

In September 2024, Odesa signed an order to dismantle the monument to Russian poet Alexander Pushkin, which is located on Prymorskyi Boulevard in front of the city hall.

Before and after the full-scale invasion, Odesa residents and activists called on local authorities to demolish the monument, considering it a symbol of Russian occupation. However, the city authorities rejected these demands.

For example, Odesa Mayor Gennadiy Trukhanov stated that he did not support the dismantling of the Pushkin monument. At the time, the mayor argued that the monument could not be demolished because it was included in the UNESCO register.
