A machine-gunner was sentenced for trafficking ammunition in the Mykolaiv region

In the Mykolaiv region, a soldier was convicted of desertion and the sale of ammunition. The court took into account the man’s prior criminal record and determined the final sentence. 

According to the verdict of the Ochakiv City and District Court of Mykolaiv Oblast, the man was serving in the military under mobilization as a driver in the machine-gun platoon of the “Shkval” specialized assault company of a military unit.

According to the investigation, in late November 2024, after receiving inpatient treatment at the Mykolaiv Regional Clinical Hospital for War Veterans, he failed to return to his unit without valid reasons. For more than three days, the servicemember remained outside the military unit and did not report his whereabouts to military authorities. 

In addition, according to the case file, the man stored ammunition at home and sold it. In March, he sold RG-4 and M-67 grenades for 4,000 hryvnias. Later, in April, he sold two F-1 grenade casings and two UZRGM detonators for another 4,000 hryvnias.

During the trial, the man pleaded guilty. For deserting his post, the judge sentenced him to six years in prison, and for the illegal trafficking of ammunition, to five years. At the same time, the judge took into account a previous sentence dated July 22, 2026. As a result, the combined sentences amounted to a final sentence of seven years’ imprisonment. The man will remain in custody until the sentence becomes final. In addition, the court ordered him to pay over 30,800 hryvnias in costs for conducting four explosive and technical examinations.

Earlier, a resident of the Mykolaiv region was also caught red-handed in the capital. According to the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), he had traveled to Kyiv to sell a batch of captured weapons that he had illegally transported from the combat zone in the east.
