A landslide buried a man in Odesa

<span><span><span><span><span><span>People nearby tried to clear the debris and rescue the victim. According to the State Emergency Service, the man was pulled from under the rubble before rescuers arrived and handed over to medical personnel.</span></span></span></span></span></span>

In 2023, a 10-year-old boy died in the village of Fontanka, Odesa Oblast, due<span><span><span><span><span><span>to a landslide</span></span></span></span></span></span>. The child died before the ambulance and rescue workers arrived. The boy was pulled from the rubble by his relatives, who had heard a loud rumbling.

In June 2024, rescuers from the State Emergency Service pulled a 59-year-old man fromunder a landslide inthe village of Sanzhiyka, Odesa Oblast.

In March 2026, another landslide that destroyed part of the coastline was recorded near the village of Sanzhiyka in the Odesa region. This happens constantly near this settlement. 

In November 2017, a large-scale landslide began in Chornomorsk. A number of houses slid down the slope; just last year, they had been at the same level as the others.

Landslides are a destructive natural phenomenon that has plagued the Odessa coastline for nearly two thousand years, dating back to the time these cities were first settled in antiquity. Experts have recorded more than 250 landslides in the Odessa area from 1797 to the present.
