The prosecutor's office has brought to court a case of alleged embezzlement of budget funds during the renovation of a hospital. A local businessman, who is also a member of the Pervomaisk City Council, was put on trial.

This was reported by the press service of the Mykolaiv Regional Prosecutor's Office.

According to the investigation, it was a matter of repairing the roof of one of the buildings of the Central City Multidisciplinary Hospital in Pervomaisk.

The suspect performed the work under a contract, but when reporting, he submitted acceptance certificates with exaggerated volumes of work and the cost of materials used. In fact, according to law enforcement, some of the work or materials existed only on paper.

As a result of such actions, the contractor was illegally paid over UAH 200 thousand from the city budget. It is for this amount that the prosecutor's office filed a civil lawsuit to have the money returned to the community.

The case was investigated by investigators of the Pervomaiskyi District Police Department of the Mykolaiv Oblast National Police. The actions of the accused city council member were classified as misappropriation of budget funds by abuse of office under martial law, as well as the preparation of deliberately false official documents.

The final decision is now up to the court. If found guilty, the MP contractor faces up to 8 years in prison with an additional ban on holding certain positions or engaging in certain activities for up to three years.

The court also placed the head of the Department of Construction and Repairs of the South Ukrainian City Council under arrest. The official was accused of misappropriating budget funds for community procurement.

According to the investigation, the case concerns the overhaul and installation of street lighting on the embankment in the village of Buzke, Voznesensk district. Law enforcement officers believe that at the end of 2024, the official, using his authority, set up a mechanism for embezzling funds from the city budget.
