A collaborator who headed the regional library during the occupation was detained in Kherson

The SBU exposed a collaborator in Kherson who, during the occupation, headed the seized regional library and promoted Russian propaganda. After the city was liberated, he remained there, waiting for the occupiers to return.

This was reported by the Security Service of Ukraine.

According to law enforcement officials, the 61-year-old man, who was detained no later than July 26, 2022, agreed to cooperate with representatives of the occupying authorities and headed the “Kherson Regional Library for Youth,” which they had illegally established.

Throughout September and October 2022, the suspect facilitated the creation of video materials about the local library’s work and its propaganda initiatives, designed to promote the occupation regime. His participation was documented in footage from pro-Russian media outlets, where he publicly supported Russia’s aggression and spoke of allegedly positive changes following the arrival of the occupiers.

At the prosecutor’s request, the court remanded the suspect in custody.

Earlier, two residents of the Kherson region who held leadership positions in the occupation administration of the Skadovsk district were charged in absentia with collaboration. According to the investigation, the suspects forced people to remove Ukrainian symbols and helped house Russian military personnel in the homes of local residents.

Previously, a court found a resident of the village of Dudchany in the Kherson region guilty of collaboration for participating in an illegal referendum during the Russian occupation.
