In Odesa, the Trade Union of Defenders of Ukraine held a press conference with the participation of the press service of the Primorsky District Court regarding the union’s demands to initiate proceedings againstOleg Kipper, the head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration.

An Intenta correspondent attended the press conference.

During the event, representatives of the organization expressed concerns about possible political pressure on the court from senior leadership.

According toMaxim Zhevanov, deputy chairman of the “Solidarity of the Unconquered” union, the reason for going to court was information regarding business activities in Russia and the Russian passport held by the wife of Oleg Kiper, head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration.  He noted that, based on the evidence provided, the prosecutor’s office refused to enter the case into the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations. That is why, he said, they had to go to court.

Maksym Zhevanov noted that the court of first instance had dismissed the case, but the Court of Appeals ordered the Primorsky District Court to reconsider the complaint. Members of the public expressed hope that the case would not be delayed and that the court would reach a fair decision.

According to a union representative, during a meeting with the court spokesperson, they discussed the upcoming hearing. Activists were most concerned about whether the hearing would be postponed again, as they do not rule out the possibility of political pressure or threats against the judge.

Yuriy Kryvokhizha, the presiding judge of the Primorsky District Court of Odesa, noted that the dialogue with representatives of civil society and veterans was productive. He said that during the meeting, they discussed the court’s actions regarding the union’s demands and provided answers to all relevant questions. The next court hearing is scheduled for October 13 at 4:00 p.m.

Intent contacted Oleg Kipper’s press office for comment on these statements but has not yet received a response.
