In the Mykolaiv region, 59 schools may not open on September 1, 2025, due to the order of the Ministry of Education and Science.

This was announced by Vitaliy Kim,head of the Mykolaiv Regional Education Administration, during a telethon.

According to the official, most of these institutions are located in frontline areas, as well as in communities that have been under occupation for some time. If they are closed, many teachers may lose their jobs.

"We have talked to the Ministry of Education and the Cabinet of Ministers about postponing or introducing a coefficient for the frontline regions. But now this issue is still open. Why is it a problem? Because these are mostly schools that were under occupation, that did not make contact with the enemies, that believe in rebuilding education, but they are really destroyed and, according to this order, those that do not have a complete set of school year cannot be opened from September 1. Now we are trying to get some kind of delay in order not to lose our teachers," said the head of the OVA.

Kim noted that the situation remains stable for all other educational institutions in the region.

Journalists counted at least 403 schools in Ukraine with less than 45 students. According to the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the cost of educating one student in a village is significantly higher than the cost of an urban student. On average, this figure is 30.4 thousand hryvnias per year, while in the city it is 24.4 thousand. In some villages, this figure reaches more than 51 thousand hryvnias. The Ministry of Education and Science considers such expenditures unjustified, as the results of the national multi-subject test, which reflects the level of preparation of graduates for university admission, show that children from rural areas perform worse than urban students. Most of them are in Mykolaiv region, and in Odesa region there are seven.

Earlier, Intent asked Oleksandr Lonchak , head of the Department of Education and Science of the Odesa Regional State Administration, for a comment, and he replied that the termination of funding for student salaries in these schools does not mean that the schools will be closed.

"It is said that there is no funding from the state budget for such institutions, but the founder (community) can maintain them at their own expense," he said.
