Odessa Academic Ukrainian Music and Drama Theater named after V. Vasylko
The Ukrainian Theater in Odessa is housed in a building converted from an old warehouse into a theater, which is a cultural heritage monument of Ukraine, known as the Sibiryakov Theater. The theater building was constructed in 1903 as a private theater for a Russian drama troupe, funded by the entrepreneur of the Odessa City Theater, Oleksandr Sibiryakov. The theater opened on October 16, 1903.
In 1995, the theater was named after the prominent Ukrainian actor, director, playwright, historian and theater theorist, and theater educator—People's Artist Vasyl Vasylko, who led the company at various times and directed about 20 productions that became part of the "golden fund" of the Odessa Ukrainian stage.
