Renaming of Toponyms in Ukraine
Toponyms are geographical names of localities, settlements, streets, parks, and other objects on a territory. On Ukrainian civic engagement platforms, this tag is often used for materials about the renaming of toponyms, especially in the context of decolonization — replacing names of Russian origin with Ukrainian ones, as well as naming places after heroes and prominent Ukrainians. Such changes in toponymy occur in cities of southern Ukraine, particularly in Odesa and Mykolaiv, as part of the process of asserting national identity.
