Palanka
Palanka was a historical administrative unit during the times of the New Sich (1734–1775), which represented a settlement with a small fortification and a Cossack garrison. The term was borrowed from Italian and originally meant a military fortification in the form of a palisade. In modern context, the word can be used to denote historical Cossack settlements and fortifications on the territory of Ukraine.
