Olbia

Olbia

Olbia was the most important ancient Greek colony in the Lower Bug region, located in the delta of the Bug and Dnieper rivers in the territory of present-day Mykolaiv Oblast. Founded by Milesian colonists in the 7th century BCE, it was one of the largest ancient cities of the Northern Black Sea region and an important center of trade and culture. Olbia left a significant mark on the history of the region and is a valuable archaeological monument that testifies to ancient Greek-Scythian contacts. Today, excavations and research of Olbia help us understand the development of ancient civilization on Ukrainian lands.
