A district council is a local government body that represents the common interests of territorial communities of villages, towns, and cities within a single district. It is elected by residents and exercises legislative and supervisory functions at the district level, approving budgets, development programs, managing communal property, and resolving issues of local significance. District councils work in close cooperation with local state administrations and lower-level councils of villages and towns. The activities of these bodies are an important part of the local government system in Ukraine.
