Conflicts of Interest in Government and Civil Service

conflict of interest

A conflict of interest is a situation where a person holding a position of trust (civil servant, official, judge, head of an institution) has personal or family interests that contradict their formal duties and may affect the objectivity of their decisions. Such a situation arises when an official makes decisions that may benefit themselves, their relatives or close associates, instead of acting in the public interest. Ukrainian legislation provides measures to prevent conflicts of interest, including asset declaration and penalties for their violation.
