Diana Yastremska creates a loud sensation at Wimbledon, Oleksandr Usyk does not confirm rumors of a third fight with Fury, and Olga Harlan harshly criticizes motorcyclists. Read more about this in the digest of sports events from the South of the Intent.

  • This year's Wimbledon has already become extremely rich in sensations. A large number of favorites were eliminated in the first rounds, with only seven of the top 20 players in the WTA rankings reaching the last 16. The matches of Ukrainian tennis players were no exception to the unexpected results.
  • In the first round, we said goodbye to one of the four Ukrainians. Marta Kostiuk, who came into the tournament with a rather long losing streak, did not break it, losing to Slovenian world number 171 Veronika Erjavec. Elina Svitolina from Odesa and Yulia Starodubtseva from Novokakhovka won their matches.
  • However, the main event of the first round, not only for Ukrainians but also for the entire world tennis , was the match between Diana Jastremska and Coco Goff. The Ukrainian sensationally outperformed her titled opponent (second in the world rankings) in all aspects of the game (more balls won, fewer errors, better service percentage), and in two sets she dealt with her opponent, creating a loud sensation.

Grand Slam. Wimbledon. First round
Elina Svitolina - Anna Bondar 6:3, 6:1
Diana Jastremska - Coco Goff 7:6 (7:5), 6:1
Julia Starodubtseva - Francesca Jones 1:6, 6:3, 6:1
Veronika Erjavec - Marta Kostiuk 3:6, 6:3, 6:4

  • In the second round, everything went relatively as expected - Svitolina and Yastremska defeated their lower-ranked rivals, while Starodubtseva finished her performance by eliminating the 19th seed without a flag. Diana's match turned out to be incredibly tense - an equal fight in all three sets, several breaks.

Second round
Elina Svitolina - Aleksandra Sasnovich 6:2, 6:4
Diana Yastremska - Anastasia Zakharova 5:7, 7:5, 7:6 (10:8)
Yulia Starodubtseva - Lyudmyla Samsonova 2:6, 1:6

In the 1/16 finals, Elina and Diana's rivals were not considered favorites either. But both matches ended not in favor of the Ukrainians. Both tennis players returned to the fight after the failed first sets, but it was not enough. It should be noted that Yastremska's match was interrupted due to rain.

Third round
Jessica Buzas Maneiro - Diana Yastremska 6:1, 2:6, 6:3
Elise Mertens - Elina Svitolina 6:1, 7:6 (7:4)

Boxing. Rumors around Usyk's next fights

  • As we have repeatedly written, Oleksandr Usyk and his team are currently preparing for the fight with Daniel Dubois , which is scheduled to take place in Britain on July 19. The same week, the media began to actively speculate about another possible future fight for the champion. Allegedly, there is talk of a third possible fight with Tyson Fury, which is tentatively scheduled to take place on April 18, 2026. However, none of the teams has confirmed the agreement, and Fury himself has begun to behave very strangely, showing an open willingness to work for Russian propaganda. And the lesser interest of the audience in the third attempt of the twice-beaten Fury to get revenge may be a hindrance.

Quote of the week

  • Ukrainian cities, including Mykolaiv, are now constantly suffering from attacks by Russian kamikaze drones. At such moments, people are highly anxious, and they can be annoyed by loud, unpleasant sounds, such as those of motorcyclists riding around the city. Olga Kharlan, who recently visited Mykolaiv, summarized the public mood as accurately as possible.

"People who drive motorcycles and cars with loud exhaust during a drone attack, but you 💩.

Traditionally, we wish you and your favorite athletes and teams good luck!
