Ukrainian chess players became the best in Europe

• This week, the European Team Chess Championship ended in Batumi, Georgia. The Ukrainian team successfully performed in both events.

• The men's team (Ruslan Ponomarev, Andriy Volokitin, Anton Korobov, Ihor Kovalenko, Ihor Samunenkov) won 7 victories with 1 draw and 1 defeat, which allowed them to win the tournament with a two-point lead and become European champions for the second time.

• The women's national team (Yulia Osmak, Anna Ushenina, Inna Gaponenko, Natalia Zhukova, Bozhena Piddubna) won 5 victories and 4 draws. This result allowed them to become the second - only the Polish national team, which, by the way, was beaten by the Ukrainians, is ahead.

• "Chornomorets defeated Chernihiv at home with a minimum score. The only goal in the match was scored by Panamanian legionnaire Anel Rice. Odesa hold second place in the First League, two points behind Bukovyna.

• "Nico-Basket has lost twice in away games. First, the reigning Super League champions from Dnipro defeated the team from Mykolaiv, and then Zaporizhzhia won by a narrow margin in a match that was interrupted by an air raid. • Odesa Storm played their first matches on their new home ice. In these matches, the Odesa team (which, however, is already signed by the Ice Hockey Federation as a team from Vinnytsia) won twice - Kryzhynka in regular time and Sokil in overtime. "After the first victory, Odeschyna was severely tested by Sokol. However, in the next game, the newcomers won their second victory of the season in the shootout.

• In two productive matches in Kyiv, Odesa handball players managed to prove their superiority against Spartak Kyiv. In the Women's Super League, Mykolaiv's Real lost to Halychanka at home.

• At the WTA500 tournament in Ningbo, China, both Ukrainians reached the round of 16. There, in three-set matches, Yulia Starodubtseva lost to the sixth seed and Diana Yastremska lost to the third seed, respectively. Before that, in the round of 16 match, Diana broke a losing streak that had lasted more than two months.

• At the age of 35, the former basketball player of the Ukrainian youth national team Denis Noskov died suddenly . During his career, Denys managed to play for a number of Ukrainian clubs, including Mykolaiv and Odesa. Noskov played for Odesa until the 2021/22 season.

• Oleksiy Sereda was nominated for the title of "Athlete of the Year" in diving by World Aquatics. The 19-year-old from Mykolaiv was the runner-up at this year's World Championships, and also took third (paired with Mark Hrytsenko) and fourth place at the World Cup Super Final.
