  • The European Trap Shooting Championships are taking place in Chateauroux, France. In the skeet discipline, Ukraine is represented by Mykola Milchev. The most famous achievement of the Odesa resident is his victory at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games with a world record that cannot be broken - 150 hits out of 150 possible.
  • Mykola scored 122 points in the qualifying round, which allowed him to qualify for the six finalists. In the final round, Milchev scored 46 points, which was the third best result. The winner was Ben Llewellyn of the United Kingdom (56 points). This medal was the second in the 57-year-old's career at the European Championships, and his first since 1999(!).

  • In addition to Milchev's success, Ukraine won two more gold medals - Viktoriia Rybovalova became the first in the 10-meter moving target shooting in the individual competition, as well as in the team competition with Halyna Avramenko and Valentyna Honcharova.

  • The epee fencing competition, which kicked off the World Fencing Championships, brought a pleasant sensation. In a tense final fight, Kharkiv's Vlada defeated Estonia's Katrina Lehis by 1 stroke to become the fifth world champion in individual fencing in the history of Ukraine.
  • Another bronze medal in the men's epee competition went to 23-year-old Mykyta Koshman from Kyiv.

  • In women's sabre, only half of the team that won Olympic gold in Paris competed - Olena Kravatska took a break from competition, and Olha Harlan temporarily retrained as a coach. Yulia Bakastova made it to the top 64, having shockingly eliminated Russian Army Major Sofya Velikaya from the tournament. The leader of the national team, Alina Komashchuk, made it to the semifinals and secured bronze medals. This is the first such personal success for the multiple medalist in the team. It is also worth noting that in the quarterfinals Komashchuk defeated Olympic silver medalist, one of the strongest saber fencers of our time, Sarah Balzer from France.

  • Unfortunately, the sabre championship went to a "neutral", according to the International Federation, lieutenant of the Russian armed forces, Yana Yegoryan. Because of this, Alina had to refuse to be photographed on the podium in order not to share a shot with the Putinist. The participation of the flagless athletes was accompanied by protests from the Georgian public, which, although they did not influence the federation's decision, made the obvious point: Russian officers are not welcome in Sakartvelo.

Events of the week

  • Not only is the fencing federation actively making concessions to the Russians, but FIDE also violates the IOC's recommendations and decides to allow a team of Russian athletes to participate in the World Championships in Linares, Spain. Natalia Zhukova , vice president of the Ukrainian Chess Federation, international grandmaster from Odesa, issued an open letter calling for the decision to be canceled and reminding that while Russians are being allowed to participate in sports, Russian troops are terrorizing peaceful Ukrainian cities every night.

  • The main political event of the week was the vote for the scandalous draft law 12414, which deprived anti-corruption bodies of their independence. Almost all sportsmen MPs voted for this bill, for example, Vasyl Virastiuk was quoted as saying that NABU "collected (data) on whom they needed to and who they didn't need to." However, after the public outcry, some of them admitted that their vote was wrong, including Zhan Beleniuk.
