U.S. President Donald Trump stated that occupied Crimea is surrounded by the ocean on all sides, calling the peninsula the most valuable part of Ukraine. He also accused former U.S. President Barack Obama of losing Crimea in 2014.
The White House chief madethese remarks in an interview with Newsmax.
“Crimea is, without a doubt, the most valuable part of Ukraine. It’s surrounded by the ocean on all four sides. It’s the most beautiful corner of the earth. I’m a developer. I know good real estate. They gave Crimea away,” Trump said.
According to him, the loss of the peninsula began during the presidency of Barack Obama, who allegedly “gave it away” to Russia in 2014.
This is not the first such statement by the U.S. president.
A previous statement about Crimea being surrounded by four oceans was made on December 9, 2025. At that time, Trump also claimed that Crimea was located “in the middle of the ocean” and compared its size to that of Texas.
In reality, Crimea’s area is approximately 26 times smaller than that of the U.S. state of Texas.
Crimea is a peninsula connected to the mainland of Ukraine. Its shores are washed by the Black and Azov Seas, not by an ocean. Russia occupied the peninsula in 2014. Crimea remains an integral part of Ukraine.
