A doctor from Odesa has become one of the world's top microsurgeons

A microsurgeon from Odesa has been named one of the world’s best reconstructive surgeons. At a prestigious international competition in the Czech Republic, he won the silver medal among specialists whose work was recognized as the best by industry experts.
This was reported by the press service of the Odessa Medical Association.
Mykhailo Saulyak, a doctor at Odesa City Clinical Hospital No. 10, took second place at the international “Share Your Best Case” competition, which took place as part of the European Congress of Microsurgeons (EFSM-2026) in Prague.
The competition has been held for nearly two decades. Each year, the jury reviews clinical cases submitted by medical professionals from around the world, but only five participants advance to the final round. This year, a representative from Odesa was among them.
Based on the evaluation results, Mykhailo Saulak’s work took second place, which was one of the best results among leading specialists in the field of reconstructive and microsurgery.
As noted by the organizers, the Odessa doctor was awarded a commemorative “Ukraine–Czech Republic” flag signed by Czech President Petr Pavel, as well as a grant for further professional training.
The Odessa doctor’s success at this prestigious European forum served as yet another confirmation of the high standard of Ukrainian medical education and the professionalism of the doctors who represent the country on the international stage.
Earlier this year, on Unity Day, the President honored Ukrainians—including those from the Odesa, Kherson, and Mykolaiv regions—for their courage, professionalism, and contributions to culture, medicine, education, science, and sports. Among those honored were medical professionals, actors, scientists, and athletes who are working to develop their regions. Among others,Maria Dumaylenko, a senior nurse at an Odesa outpatient clinic, was awarded the “For Labor and Valor” medal.
