Romanian Senator Diana Shoshoake, who is known for her statements that Ukraine should give her country some of its territories, including those in the Odesa region, complained in letters to US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin that she was not allowed to run for president in her home country.
In her letter to Vladimir Putin, she mentioned again the territories of Ukraine, which, in her opinion, should belong to Romania, Digi24 reported.
"We have Romanian territories that are illegally held by Ukraine because of the unjust Ribbentrop-Molotov Pact, which has been denounced, and therefore we have the right to defend ourselves, Romanians, in the territories we want to return. Please take this request for the return of Romanian territories by the Romanian state into account in the current peace negotiations in Ukraine," the newspaper quoted a fragment from Diana Shoshoake's letter.
In her letter to Donald Trump, the senator claimed that the democratic system in Romania had been destroyed and that the presidential election in Romania had already been rigged. Therefore, the United States should not recognize the results of these elections.
Romania's Central Election Commission rejected DianaȘoșoaca's application to run for the Romanian presidential election to be held in May, citing the decision of the country's Constitutional Court, which ruled in October 2024 that the senator's candidacy for the Romanian presidential election violated the election conditions provided for in the constitutional provisions. The court cited the values of democracy, the rule of law, and respect for the Constitution, which are linked to their political and military guarantees, respectively, Romania's membership in the EU and NATO.
In March 2023, the senator was added to the Peacemaker list. Also, on March 24 of the same year, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine initiated sanctions against Romanian Senator Diana Scoşoake as a person who poses a threat to national security.
