Mykolaiv has received more than seven million euros from the European bank to restore its water supply. This project will ensure the city's sustainability and improve environmental standards.
This was reported by the press service of the European Investment Bank.
According to the press service, the bank continues to support Ukraine in times of war. As part of the Emergency Solidarity Package, €14.5 million was allocated to restore municipal infrastructure in Dnipro and Mykolaiv.
In Mykolaiv, €7.8 million will be used to modernize water supply and wastewater treatment systems, which is critical after infrastructure damage caused by Russian shelling.
In Dnipro, €6.7 million is earmarked for the modernization of street lighting. The replacement of outdated lamps with energy-efficient LEDs will not only reduce energy consumption but also increase safety for residents and drivers.
EIB Vice-President Teresa Cervinska emphasized the importance of recovery for the resilience of the Ukrainian people, while European Commission Executive Vice-President Valdis Dombrovskis stressed the critical need to ensure basic water supply and security for Ukrainians.
Mykolaiv Mayor Oleksandr Senkevych noted that thanks to the EIB's support, the restoration of the city's water infrastructure will be significantly accelerated, which will ensure quality access to water for residents.
Earlier, the director of Mykolaivvodokanal noted that the period for restoring fresh water supply to the city could range from one to three years. He also emphasized that it all depends on how quickly the necessary funds are raised to solve the water supply problems.
Mykolaiv has been experiencing water supply problems for over 2 years, so one of the main areas of work for the Infrastructure Recovery Agency for the next year is the construction of a water supply system. The Agency assured that all work on the water supply and treatment facilities will be carried out with maximum transparency and accountability.
Recently, the court canceled a 38 million contract for the construction of a water supply system in Mykolaiv. The contract was concluded between the Department of Urban Development of Mykolaiv Regional State Administration and Mykolaivmiskbud LLC for the reconstruction of the main water supply system.
This case may serve as an example for reviewing other contracts concluded as part of the water supply system reconstruction project in Mykolaiv. As part of these agreements, contractors have already been paid about UAH 100 million, while facts of overstating the cost of materials, such as pipes, by 2-3 times were revealed.
