The Odessa International Film Festival is partnering with Odessa and the Odessa region as candidates to host the 2030 World’s Fair (Expo). This was announced by OIFF President Viktoria Tigipko on her Instagram.
In particular, she noted that the reconstruction and development of the country are Ukraine’s priorities following its victory. But even now, the country is engaging dozens of partner countries to help rebuild regions, cities, and businesses.
Opening up Ukraine through Odesa is something we have been doing for many years as part of the Odesa International Film Festival. And we know for certain that Odesa has the potential to become one of the most attractive exhibition venues in Europe.

The Odessa International Film Festival (OIFF) is an annual film festival held in Odessa in mid-July. It was first held in 2010. For the first two years, the festival positioned itself as a festival of films for audiences with a unique sense of humor. It later expanded its focus and established itself as an “art-mainstream” festival: films of high artistic quality aimed at a broad audience. Since 2016, the competition program has consisted of three distinct sections: the International Competition Program, the National Competition Program, and the European Documentary Film Competition.
A World’s Fair, or Expo, is an international exhibition that symbolizes industrialization and serves as an open platform for showcasing technical and technological achievements. The first Expo took place at the Crystal Palace in London, United Kingdom, in 1851 under the name “The Great Exhibition of the Works of Industry of All Nations.” The “Great Exhibition,” as it is often called, was the brainchild of Prince Albert, husband of Queen Victoria, and became the first international exhibition of manufactured goods.
On November 23, Economy MinisterYulia Svyrydenko announced that the coordinating committee responsible for preparing and ensuring Ukraine’s participation in the selection process for the host country of the 2030 World’s Fair in Ukraine (in Odesa) had decided that the country should submit Ukraine’s bid for this event as early as next week in Paris.
On November 29, Ukrainian PresidentVolodymyr ZelenskyypresentedUkraine’s bid to host the 2030 World’s Fair. In his video address, the president stated that the Black Sea region is one of the key guarantors of global stability, and that Odesa is precisely the major port on whose operations the social well-being of dozens of countries in Africa, Asia, and Europe depends.
