The court found two so-called "prosecutors" from the occupied Crimea guilty in absentia of high treason. They were sentenced to 13 and 14 years in prison with confiscation of property.

This was reported by the Prosecutor's Office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol.

According to the investigation, after the occupation of the peninsula, the convicts remained in Crimea and began working in illegally created "prosecutor's offices".

One of them became an "assistant prosecutor of the Leninsky district" in 2014, and since 2017 he has held the position of "assistant to the Kerch interdistrict environmental prosecutor".

Another was appointed "assistant prosecutor of Yalta" in March 2014, and in 2020 - to a similar position in the "prosecutor's office of the Simferopol district".

According to the investigation, they followed the instructions of the occupation authorities and participated in court hearings, where they supported the prosecution under Russian law.

The prosecutor's office notes that by their actions, the convicts assisted the aggressor state in conducting subversive activities against Ukraine.

Earlier, three former prosecutors from Crimea were put on trial for treason after serving the occupation authorities in Sevastopol. They worked for the Russian "justice" system for years and actually strengthened the aggressor's control over the peninsula. Two of them took positions in the so-called military prosecutor's office of the Russian Black Sea Fleet in Sevastopol. There they acted as prosecutors and participated in the sessions of the occupation military courts. Another defendant became a "senior prosecutor" of the criminal justice unit in the illegally established Sevastopol prosecutor's office.

Also in March, two former SBU officers in Crimea, who joined the Russian Federal Security Service after the occupation of the peninsula, were charged with torture. According to the investigation, they illegally detained and tortured a civilian for more than six hours, forcing him to confess to involvement in a "banned" organization.
