The flooding in Yevpatoria was caused by a botched reconstruction of the waterfront

The first autumn downpour turned Yevpatoria into a flooded city, forcing local residents to navigate the streets in waders and rubber boats. The cause of yet another flood was not only neglected storm drains but also mistakes made by designers during the multimillion-dollar reconstruction of the city’s waterfront.

Yevpatoria had suffered from storms before, but this time the problems began after a normal rain. City residents believe the occupying authorities are to blame.
The old town and the area near the waterfront were particularly hard hit. The street adjacent to the city’s Tereshkova Waterfront was flooded. It was this very street that the Russian authorities finally renovated this year at a cost of 1.7 billion rubles. Work on this controversial project lasted seven years. The result turned out to be a failure. Local residents believe that the decisions made by the embankment’s designers are the reason why even the lightest rain floods the surrounding area.
About four years ago, I got caught in a downpour right here, and the water was rushing straight into the sea. It was clearly visible that the water was flowing from here. And now, thanks to our “unique” architects, this is what we’re left with. You walk down—and you end up in Venice. This isn’t a downpour; it’s just a light rain. And this is the mess we’re dealing with,” writes local resident Vadym Kurchuk in his blog .
The city’s storm drains are also heavily clogged, which is exacerbating the situation.
The occupation administration of Yevpatoria, headed by Vitaly Oganesyan, is completely ignoring the widespread flooding of the city. Officials are publicly pretending that nothing has happened and are issuing reassuring statements about the “particularly cozy and charming” autumn city.
The streets of Yevpatoria were flooded on September 6 following a heavy downpour. There is no information about anyone injured in the storm.
