Psychologist officer in Odesa sent to pre-trial detention center with bail

The Police and the Security Service of Ukraine detained a 41-year-old resident of Odesa district, who holds the position of a psychologist in a military unit, on suspicion of abuse of influence and bribery.
This was reported by the press service of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Odesa region.
According to the investigation, the woman was spreading information among her friends that in exchange for a monetary reward she could influence officials of any military unit in the Odesa region and help the military solve their problems.
The police also claim to have documented how a psychologist officer promised an Odesa resident to solve the issue of transferring his acquaintance from the front line to a military unit in Odesa in exchange for $4,000. She also assured that after paying the money, the soldier would be able to formally serve in the rear and would be removed from the military register for health reasons.
Law enforcement officers detained the woman at her home after receiving the entire amount of the bribe in two tranches. Investigators seized money, a cell phone and documents of interest to the pre-trial investigation as material evidence.
The detainee was served a notice of suspicion of obtaining an illegal benefit to influence the decision-making of a person authorized to perform public functions, combined with extortion of such benefit. If proven guilty, the officer faces imprisonment for a term of three to eight years with confiscation of property. At the request of the police, the court imposed on the suspect a pre-trial restraint in the form of detention with the right to be released on bail in the amount of UAH 832,000.
